thelocalstack.eu is an independent privacy blog run by one person, on consumer hardware, for €5 a month. I write investigative pieces about how platforms handle your data, reading the legal documents most people never see, finding what they actually say, and explaining it in plain language. I also write about self-hosting as a practical alternative to handing your data to platforms that extract value from it without being transparent about it. Recent work: an investigation into LinkedIn's identity verification practices that reached 200,000+ readers, prompted a response from the CEO of Persona, was shared by Brian Krebs, and syndicated by Golem.de. A second investigation into LinkedIn's use of EU member data for generative AI training. This blog has no ads, no affiliate links, no sponsors, and no tracking.
