If you donate, you will not get special treatment of any kind. Liberapay is configured to not show me who you are (although Stripe will show me the name on your credit card)

Do not feel pressure to donate, especially if you cannot afford to do so.

100% of our costs come from server hosting. Everything is on DigitalOcean. Here is our cost breakdown:

• 2-4 node (2vCPU 4 GB each) Kubernetes cluster - $48-$96/mo
  • autoscales based on load. Current (late Dec 2022) load has at 3 nodes most of the time, sometimes going down to 2 and sometimes up to 4.
• 115GB hosted database, as we recently completely filled the next smallest size (40GB) - $120/mo
• single node load balancer (required for k8s ingress) - $12/mo
• about 500GB of object storage - $10/mo

This instance could absolutely be hosted for cheaper. We are setup to scale. See above disclaimer about not feeling pressured to donate.

if our monthly donations exceed our hosting costs, we may add additional services such as full text search and inline translations, and/or distribute the money to admins and moderators at our discretion.
